AKRON, Ohio (AP) — A northeast Ohio sheriff's office is investigating a woman's possible suicide at the county jail.
The Akron Beacon Journal reports Summit County deputies found the 53-year-old Norton woman hanging in her cell Sunday afternoon.
Jail Commander Bill Holland says deputies and medical staff tried to revive her. She was pronounced dead at an Akron hospital.
The woman was jailed Jan. 24 for probation violations. Court records show she has a lengthy criminal record, primarily for drug abuse.
Holland says the woman wasn't under a suicide watch and that deputies check on inmates every three hours. She was alone in the cell when she was found.
