MILAN (AP) — Inter Milan has confirmed the signing of striker Mauro Icardi in a co-ownership deal with Sampdoria.

Icardi has been in pre-season training with Inter before the deal was finalized Tuesday.

Icardi says "I hope to do my best for the team and the fans. I can't wait to start the new season."

The 20-year-old scored 11 goals in 33 league appearances last season — including a double against Juventus and four against Pescara.

Icardi was born in Argentina but has an Italian passport and Italy coach Cesare Prandelli is keen for the forward to commit to the Azzurri.
