NEW YORK (AP) _ John Velazquez rode the winner in each of the co-featured races for 2-year-olds at Belmont Park on Sunday.

He brought Ruff from last in a field of eight fillies entering the stretch to post a three-length victory in the $111,300 Miss Grillo.

Carrying 116 pounds, Ruff covered 1 1/8 miles on a firm turf course in 1:49:3 to beat Mystic Lady, who was a neck ahead of Medicine Bow.

The win was the third in six starts this year for Ruff who earned $66,780 for Robert Spiegel and returned $8 to win.

Velazquez also used a strong late run with Volponi to win the $113,300 Pilgrim Stakes, also a Grade III turf race.

Carrying 115 pounds, overtook favored Baptize and went on to a two-length victory. Baptize lasted to be easily second in the 11-horse field, finishing 4 1/4 lengths ahead of Strategic Partner.

Volponi covered nine furlongs in 1:48 and earned $67,980 for Amherst and Spruce Pond Stables with his first win in five career starts.

Volponi returned $21.80 to win.

Sunday was the last day of the Belmont Park fall meeting. Racing resumes Wednesday at Aqueduct.
