Jul. 24, 1996
CANTON, Ohio (AP) _ A Strong wind knocked over two speaker towers at the Pro Football Hall of Fame Festival on Wednesday, slightly injuring 14 people, authorities said.
The speakers were on a stage at the rib burn-off in downtown Canton, police Lt. J.P. Korchnak said. The accident happened at 1:45 p.m., when most of the lunchtime crowd probably had left, he said.
He did not know the nature of the injuries or have any more details. The Canton Fire Department, which was handling the situation, did not have anyone available to discuss it.
The 11 injured people taken to Aultman Hospital were being treated and released, spokeswoman Jennifer Tenaglia said. Three people also were treated and released at Columbia Mercy Medical Center, spokesman Tim Kraft said.
The Hall of Fame Festival is a series of events leading up to Saturday's Pro Football Hall of Fame game.
