MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) _ Ty Baynhan scored 24 points and Randy Henry added 18 as Middle Tennessee State toppled Georgia 69-59 Tuesday night in a second-round National Invitation Tournament game.
The victory was the second straight for the Ohio Valley Conference-member Blue Raiders, 23-10, over a Southeastern Conference foe. Middle Tennessee downed Tennessee 85-80 in the opening round.
The loss ended Georgia's season with a 20-16 record.
Middle Tennessee never trailed in the second half and built a 52-43 lead with 9:56 to play. Georgia then went on a 10-2 scoring spree to pull within 55-53 with 6:37 remaining.
The Blue Raiders reasserted themselves at that point and outscored the Bulldogs 14-6 in the final 5:50 to advance to the third round. Two baskets by Baynham highlighted an 8-2 run which put MTSU on top 63-55 with 3:40 left. Georgia pulled within 65-59 with 1:39 remaining on a basket by Alec Kessler, but then went cold from the floor.
Middle Tennessee insured the victory by getting two free throws each from Henry and Phil Snell, who finished with 10 points.
Georgia's Willie Anderson, who led the Bulldogs with 18 points, was hampered by foul problems throughout the game. Anderson went to the bench in the first half with three fouls and did not re-enter the contest until there was 17:29 left in the game.
Anderson scored 14 of 18 Bulldog points from 12:05 remaining to the three- minute mark, but fouled out with 2:28 to play and Georgia down 63-57.
Kessler added 16 points and Toney Mack had 12 points for Georgia.
Kessler and Middle Tennessee's Dwayne Rainey each grabbed nine rebounds.
