Wizards' Tyrone Nesby Arrested
Apr. 10, 2001
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Police arrested forward Tyrone Nesby of the Washington Wizards on a 1999 battery warrant from Knox County, Ind., and were holding him in jail Tuesday.
Nesby was arrested in the Wizards' locker room at Conseco Fieldhouse following Monday night's game with the Indiana Pacers.
No court appearance was scheduled, and Nesby likely would be held in the city-county lockup in Indianapolis until Knox County could take custody of him, most likely on Wednesday, said Sgt. Greg Bourlard of the Knox County Sheriff's Department in Vincennes, about 100 miles southwest of Indianapolis.
The Wizards have a home game Wednesday night against Chicago.
The misdemeanor battery warrant was issued March 1, 1999, a Knox County court clerk said.
Bourlard said he had no details of the incident that resulted in the warrant for Nesby, who played junior college basketball for Vincennes University before transferring to UNLV in 1996. He majored in criminal justice at UNLV.
A second warrant charged Nesby with failure to appear in court, Bourlard said.
Nesby played 15 minutes in the 100-78 loss to the Pacers, scoring two points with one rebound. The Wizards activated him from the injured list last week.
