HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (AP) _ Wide receiver Alex Van Dyke, the the New York Jets' second-round pick in the 1996 draft, was traded Thursday to Pittsburgh for a sixth-round draft choice in April's draft.

Van Dyke had five receptions last season for 40 yards last year as a backup to Keyshawn Johnson, Wayne Chrebet and Dedric Ward.

Seventeen of his 25 career catches came in his rookie season.

``This is a good opportunity for Alex,'' coach Bill Parcells said. ``He was trapped behind some other wide receivers while he was here but he was a good player for us and we wish him well.''
