PROVO, Utah (AP) — A Utah man who pleaded guilty to shooting another man in the chest has been sentenced to one to 15 years in prison.
The Herald Extra reports that 22-year-old Caleb Plainer pleaded guilty to second-degree aggravated assault in November. He will receive credit for the time he has already served in jail.
Plainer was arrested and charged in July after the 22-year-old victim called 911 saying he had been shot.
Authorities say Plainer told them he suspected the man he shot had been messing with his gun.
He told police that he ordered the man out of his residence and then shot the man after he took several steps forward.
The victim, however, told authorities he did nothing aggressive.
After being shot, the victim ran to a neighbor's house where police were called.
