WEST GREENWICH, R.I. (AP) _ GTECH Holdings Corp., the world's largest lottery company, announced Friday that Steven Nowick has been named chief operating officer.

Nowick, 43, joined GTECH as senior vice president of the company's corporate development department in September of 1997.

GTECH is the world's leading supplier of computerized on-line lottery products and services, with contracts in 28 states, the District of Columbia and 50 countries.

Earlier this year, the company's chairman and co-founder, Guy Snowden, stepped down after a jury in London found he committed libel by denying he tried to bribe British rival Richard Branson.
