INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Chris Miskel scored 13 of his 19 points in the second half to lead Butler over Cleveland State 71-56 Thursday night.
Rolf van Rijn put Butler (12-5, 5-2 Midwestern Collegiate Conference) ahead for good on a dunk to start the second half. The Bulldogs scored the first eight points of the second half, taking a 38-30 lead on a layup by Miskel. Cleveland State (4-11, 3-4) never drew closer than five points.
Cleveland State trailed 62-51 with 1:29 to play. Jeff Rogers then helped hold off Cleveland State by making four consecutive free throws and a layup by Srdan Selimbegovic at the buzzer gave the Bulldogs their biggest lead of the night.
Leonidas and Joe Rey shared scoring honors for Cleveland State with 13 points apiece.
Butler pulled away by shooting 54 percent (13-of-24) in the second half, while holding Cleveland State to 32 percent as the visitors made only 8 of 25 attempts in the final period.
