MISSION VIEJO, Calif. (AP) _ The Ensign Group Inc. (ENSG) on Thursday reported second-quarter profit of $22 million.

On a per-share basis, the Mission Viejo, California-based company said it had net income of 41 cents. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, were 44 cents per share.

The results surpassed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of three analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 43 cents per share.

The provider of nursing and rehabilitative care services posted revenue of $505.5 million in the period.

Ensign Group expects full-year earnings to be $1.80 to $1.87 per share.

Ensign Group shares have increased 67 percent since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Thursday, shares hit $37.03, a rise of 70 percent in the last 12 months.
