MILLINGTON, Tenn. (AP) _ Orlando Fernandez, Osvaldo Hernandez and Jorge Valdes combined to limit the United States to three hits Tuesday night as Cuba beat the U.S. Olympic team 6-0.
Cuba, which won five of the seven games between the teams during the American exhibition swing, took advantage of six American errors to score five unearned runs.
Fernandez pitched the first four innings for Cuba, allowing one hit and striking out two. Hernandez went the next four innings to get the victory, giving up two hits, and Valdes struck out the side in the ninth.
American starter Daron Kirkreit was charged with four runs in four-plus innings despite allowing only three hits.
