Former Ark. Power Broker Sentenced
Feb. 16, 2000
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) _ A former state senator and Arkansas power broker was sentenced to 18 months in prison and fined $40,000 Wednesday for tax evasion and conspiracy.
Nick Wilson, 57, was also ordered to pay $42,017 in restitution to the Internal Revenue Service.
Wilson, who resigned Dec. 31 after 29 years in office, was found guilty last year of concocting a scheme to evade taxes on $330,000 in commissions from the sale of two Little Rock office buildings.
Once one of the most powerful legislators in Arkansas, he faces another trial at the end of the month on charges he illegally profited from state contracts.
