CHICAGO (AP) _ The Chicago White Sox put Jose Valentin and Herbert Perry on the disabled list Friday night.
McKay Christiansen and Joe Crede were recalled from Triple-A Charlotte. They are expected to be in Chicago in time for Saturday's game against the Cubs.
Valentin's hamstring had been bothering him for the past few days. As he rounded first after flying out to center in the first inning, he felt something pull.
He was put on the 15-day disabled list after the game.
``It's disappointing,'' Valentin said. ``But I'm glad it happened now, it's early in the year.''
The White Sox are already without Frank Thomas, who is out for the season with a torn right triceps. Valentin has been one of the Chicago's consistent bright spots. He's hitting .290 with a team-high 13 homers and 32 RBIs.
``This is a huge blow,'' manager Jerry Manuel said. ``He's the leadoff hitter and the heart of the team. Some people really have to step up.''
Perry left Wednesday's game with a sore Achilles tendon. He had an eight-game hitting streak, and is batting .271 with 16 RBIs.
Crede is hitting .291 at Charlotte with 33 RBIs. He hit his eighth homer of the season Thursday night. Christiansen is hitting .251 with five home runs and 18 RBIs.
