First Couple Takes Nine-Mile Bike Jaunt
Oct. 11, 1993
WASHINGTON (AP) _ Taking advantage of a crisp fall evening, President Clinton and first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton rode their bicycles Sunday for about nine miles along the Potomac River in suburban Virginia.
Clinton, a regular jogger, was several feet ahead of his wife when reporters in a van caught up to them near Mount Vernon, the home of George Washington. Mrs. Clinton hunched over her handlebars and pedaled furiously, laboring up a small hill.
It apparently was the first time the couple rode bikes publicly since Clinton took office.
Both wore safety helmets.
