LONDON (AP) _ Britain's unemployment rate held steady at a 20-year low of 4 percent in March, the government said Wednesday.

Britons without jobs numbered 1,148,800, down by 7,700 from February, according to the Office of National Statistics.

It computes the rate by using the number of people claiming unemployment benefits.

Unemployment calculated by International Labor Organization standards, which includes people not eligible for benefits, eased to 5.8 percent between December and February, down from 5.9 per cent in the preceding three months.
