WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (AP) _ Patrick Savory scored 22 points and Clayton Johnson had 19 Saturday as UNLV beat William & Mary 83-74.
UNLV (9-9) built a double-digit lead early in the first half and cruised through much of the second half until it ran into foul trouble. Savory, Johnson and Jermaine Smith, all starters, fouled out in the final six minutes.
The Tribe (6-14) trailed 75-55 with 6:30 remaining after Johnson hit a 3-pointer. William & Mary closed the gap with a 19-8 run through the end of the game as the Runnin' Rebels missed 11 of their final 16 free throws.
Eric Lee scored six of UNLV's final eight points.
Damian Smith, who was 4-for-4 from the 3-point distance, had 14 points for UNLV, Lee had 12 and Michael Curtis 11. UNLV was 10 of 12 from the 3-point distance.
Carl Parker and Kurt Small each scored 23 points for the Tribe. Parker had 17 in the second half and Small 18. David Cully grabbed 16 rebounds and blocked two shots. He had four points, all from the free-throw line.
