100 Ugandans Feared Dead of Cholera
Apr. 15, 1998
KAMPALA, Uganda (AP) _ One hundred people are feared dead in an outbreak of cholera along Uganda's southwestern border, a radio report said Tuesday.
The cholera outbreak was reported in several villages in the Kisoro district, along Uganda's frontier with Rwanda and Congo, Kampala's private Capital Radio said. There was no immediate confirmation of the epidemic from the government.
Parents were taking their children out of school, fearing they might contract the disease, the radio said.
A cholera outbreak in December left nearly 500 people dead nationwide. That outburst of the disease was blamed on poor sanitation and heavy flooding.
