CHICAGO (AP) _ Graylin Pratt passed for 188 yards and two touchdowns in leading Jackson State over Alabama State 24-22 Saturday night.
Jackson State's Tigers (3-2) led 17-3 at halftime and held off a late rally from Alabama State (1-3-1).
The game was played at Chicago's Soldier Field as both predominately black teams use the annual clash as a recruitment tool in the Midwest.
Tiger Carlos Knight ran 1-yard for an opening-period touchdown and Pratt connected with Marek Walker for a 16-yard scoring pass in the second quarter.
Quincy Culberson grabbed a 68-yard pass from Pratt in the third period to put Jackson State 24-3.
After halftime, Alcede Surtain ran 7-yards for the Hornets' first TD, then scored again 4 minutes later on an 8-yard run, climaxing a three-play, 52-yard drive.
Robert Vaughn's TD from 15 yards out with 7:30 left completed the scoring. His rush for a two-point conversion for the tie failed.
Surtain led all rushers with 142 yards on 25 carries.
