Dow Drops 65; Nasdaq Loses 5
Jan. 18, 2000
NEW YORK (AP) _ The Dow Jones industrial average is down 65 points in today's early going. Losing issues on the New York Stock Exchange hold a 7-6 lead over gainers.
The Nasdaq Composite Index is off five points and the Standard & Poor's 500 Stock Index is down three points.
Higher oil prices and weak bond prices are putting some downward pressure on equities this morning.
Overseas, markets have turned sharply lower in Europe.
But on a case-by-case basis, there should be some reasons for buying today as companies line up to post quarterly earnings.
