FAYETTE, Ala. (AP) _ Two Fayette police officers and a police dispatcher were shot to death early Saturday while booking a suspect who opened fire and fled in a police vehicle, a coroner confirmed.

The shooting occurred about 5:30 a.m. inside the police station near Fayette City Hall, coroner Richard Nelson said.

Authorities in surrounding cities were alerted to look for the male suspect, possibly driving a dark blue Crown Victoria, a police vehicle taken during the escape.

Nelson did not have further details and a police spokesman was not immediately available.
