NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Officials say a woman injured in a New Orleans house fire has died.
New Orleans firefighters said in a statement the 77-year-old suffered second degree burns during the blaze on Monday. NOLA.com/The Times-Picayune reports Corrine Lang died after being transported to a hospital for treatment of burns that covered 50 percent of her body. Her son Nathaniel Lang told firefighters she died on Tuesday.
Firefighters say Corrine Lang and an 87-year-old man were sitting on the front porch when responders arrived. The man suffered minor burns on his hands and upper body.
Firefighters say the blaze started in the couple's bedroom. The couple told firefighters that working smoke alarms were in the home and no one was smoking at the time.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
