MESA, Ariz. (AP) — Two officers who were placed on leave after video surfaced showing them roughly treating a 15-year-old armed robbery suspect won't be charged.
The Maricopa County Attorney's Office said Friday it finished its review of a May incident in which two Mesa police officers cursed at the boy and grabbed the collar of his T-shirt tightly around his neck. The officers are also seen putting their feet on the boy as he's handcuffed on the ground and slamming him against the hood of a car.
The boy was a suspect in an armed robbery and has been charged.
The county attorney's office says the officers lawfully used forced because they were trying to arrest and search the boy while he kept moving.
Mesa police have been under scrutiny for excessive use of force for several incidents in the past few years.
