New World Series Trophy Unveiled
Jun. 27, 2000
NEW YORK (AP) _ Baseball and Tiffany showed off the new World Series trophy Tuesday, and it looked much like the old one.
Baseball had used the same model from 1967-99. The updated version has a sterling silver globe, with 24-karat stitches, simulating a baseball, added to the base.
``Like everything else in life, it was time for a change,'' commissioner Bud Selig said at a Tuesday news conference called ``Breakfast at Tiffany.'' ``We're in a new century, a new era for major league baseball.''
A new trophy is created each year and given to the Series-winning team. Each trophy is 24 inches high, 11 inches in diameter and takes three months to make.
