NEW YORK (AP) _ A doctor stabbed a pregnant nurse six times with a syringe outside a Bronx hospital, police said Saturday.

Dr. Stephen Pack, 44, of Chappaqua, reportedly had been romantically involved with the woman. He was charged with assault, said police spokesman Alan Krawitz.

The 31-year-old woman, who suffered five stab wounds to the leg and one to the buttocks outside Montefiore Hospital, was listed in stable condition Saturday. It was unclear what was inside the syringe.
