ATLANTA (AP) _ Yevgeniya Nikonova scored 18 points and Yelena Baranova added 16 points and 11 rebounds Saturday night, leading Russia to a 68-49 victory over Canada in women's Olympic basketball.
Russia (3-1) can finish no worse than third in its six-team pool, which will send its top four teams to the quarterfinals. Canada (0-4) was eliminated from advancing.
Canada scored the first three points of the second half to get within 35-32, but Russia went on a 12-0 run over the next 5 1/2 minutes, with Nikonova and Irina Sumnikova each scoring four of the points.
Diane Norman had 15 points for Canada, which struggled from the field. Canada made only 17 of 57 shots, including 0-for-8 from 3-point range.
