INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) _ Anthony Jones and Armon Gilliam combined for 41 points Thursday to lead 13th-ranked Nevada-Las Vegas to a 68-49 victory over Fresno State in a quarterfinal game of the Pacific Coast Athletic Association basketball tournament.

In other quarterfinal action earlier Thursday, University of Pacific scored a 55-53 victory over San Jose State, and New Mexico State downed Utah State 74-71. UC Irvine was to meet Fullerton State Thursday night.

Jones led all scorers with 24 points and Gilliam added 17 for the Rebels, who improved their record to 29-4. Nevada-Las Vegas won the PCAA title with a 16-2 conference record.

Brian Salone scored 15 points for the Bulldogs, who ended their season at 15-15. Fresno State finished the regular season tied for sixth in PCAA with an 8-10 mark.

Nevada-Las Vegas led 27-22 at halftime, but Fresno State scored six straight points early in the second half to pull within 29-27 with 17:00 remaining in the game.

Forward Eldridge Hudson converted a three-point play to give Nevada-Las Vegas a 32-27 lead. Fresno's Mike Mitchell answered with a basket, but Jones scored six straight points to give Nevada-Las Vegas a 38-29 lead and Fresno could get no closer than seven points the rest of the way.

Hudson and Gilliam each pulled down six rebounds for Nevada-Las Vegas, while Salone had eight for Fresno State.
