Court reinstates lawsuit against City of Grand Junction
Jul. 13, 2018
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (AP) — The Colorado Court of Appeals has reinstated a lawsuit by the victims of a house explosion after ruling that neither the city of Grand Junction nor any other governmental entity in the state is immune from lawsuits alleging negligence by agents hired by them.
The Daily Sentinel reports three Colorado Mesa University students filed a lawsuit against the city and its private contractors after they were injured in the 2013 explosion that resulted from a natural gas leak.
A city contractor is believed to have accidently cut into a natural gas line, causing the gas leak.
The judges ruled Thursday that the city isn't shielded from liability just because it hired someone else to do the work.
The negligence lawsuit will go back to district court for trial.
