Stocks Mixed in Early Trading

NEW YORK (AP) _ Stock prices have started narrowly higher on Wall Street.
The Dow Jones industrial average is down two points. Gainers outnumber losers by about 2-1 on the New York Stock Exchange.
The Nasdaq Composite Index is up seven points and the Standard & Poor's 500 Stock Index has added two points.
Stocks sold off yesterday after the Federal Reserve opted once again to leave short-term interest rates steady.
The selling carried over to overseas equities markets as well.
Caution could be the buzz word for the market today, given today's deadline for U.S. corporations.
About 700 U.S. firms have until 5 p.m. EDT today to file a statement with the SEC certifying their financial reports.
Shares of computer chip makers are facing some early pressure after Applied Materials lowered its financial forecast.
