DETROIT (AP) _ Steve Yzerman missed most of the Detroit Red Wings' first playoff game Wednesday night because of a sore leg.
The Red Wings did not disclose which leg was bothering Yzerman, who tied Gordie Howe's franchise record by playing in his 154th playoff game.
The Detroit captain played only 5 minutes, 58 seconds in the first period of Game 1 of the Western Conference quarterfinals against the Los Angeles Kings.
Yzerman, who had 18 goals and 34 assists in the regular season, missed 25 games because of a right knee injury that required surgery. He also sat out two March games because of an injured groin.
The veteran of 18 NHL seasons has 61 career goals and 91 assists in the playoffs.
