Fire at Fla. Gator Park
Nov. 06, 2006
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) _ Firefighters were battling a blaze Monday morning in a building at Gatorland, a 110-acre alligator theme park and preserve.
Emergency officials received a call at 5:55 a.m. reporting smoke and flames at the park, said Orange County Fire Rescue spokeswoman Marianne Nuckles.
Nuckles said she believed the burning building housed a gift shop and administrative offices and that the fire did not appear to threaten any animals.
About 75 firefighters were trying to extinguish flames in the building at the front of the park.
``It became unsafe to go inside and fight the fire,'' Nuckles said, ``so we're fighting it from the outside.''
