HOUSTON (AP) _ Rickey Henderson's contract was purchased from Triple-A Pawtucket on Friday by the Boston Red Sox on Friday as the outfielder apparently settling his differences with the team.
Henderson, who previously had signed the minor league contract, had been balking at signing a major league deal. He was hitting .203 in 17 spring games.
The Red Sox also purchased the contracts of infielders Rey Sanchez and Carlos Baerga from Pawtucket and sent infielder Wilton Veras outright to Pawtucket.
Henderson agreed to the minor league contract on Feb. 13 but didn't sign it until last week. That deal contained a letter agreement for a $350,000, one-year contract if he was added to the major league roster.
He got the 3,000th hit of his career last Oct. 7 in his final at-bat of the season.
