MURRAY, Ky. (AP) _ A 19-year old college freshman was charged with murder after an infant believed to be her newborn girl was found dead in her dorm room, authorities said.
Murray State University student Angelita Turner apparently gave birth in her dorm room last week, police said. Turner was arrested Thursday on a tampering with evidence charge and was being held on $50,000 cash bond.
Police ``received information she'd had a child but refused to acknowledge she'd had one,'' said prosecutor Randy Hutchens. He would not comment on the results of an autopsy.
Turner was released from the hospital Thursday and social service officials contacted the university to alert them of her condition.
Murray State housing director Paula Hulick said Turner has a 2- or 3-year-old daughter who lives with Turner's grandmother.
