Albanian police arrest Greek prison escapee
Jan. 25, 2014
TIRANA, Albania (AP) — Albanian police say they have arrested an Albanian who escaped from prison in neighboring Greece last year.
Police spokeswoman Alma Katragjini said Ilir Kupa was arrested Saturday morning in Kashar, near the capital Tirana. She says he offered little resistance, though he fired a shot in the air. A second person got away.
Kupa and ten other Albanians escaped from a central Greece prison in March 2013. Marjan Kola, considered the escapees' ringleader, was shot dead in a clash with Greek police near the Albanian border last July. Kupa was said to be with Kola at the time.
The spokeswoman added police are investigating whether Kupa is a suspect in other crimes. They have set a 10,000 euro (about $13,700) reward for information on Kupa and his associate.
