NEW YORK (AP) _ Bobby Thomason threw two touchdown passes and Chris Tillotson starred on both offense and defense as Columbia defeated Towson 16-6 Saturday.
Columbia (1-1) trailed 3-0 after George Perdikakis kicked a 21-yard field goal midway through the third quarter, but Thomason then completed a 14-yard scoring pass to Tillotson with 27 seconds remaining in the period and the Lions never trailed again.
Thomason completed 25 of 47 passes for 244 yards and threw his second touchdown pass at 11:25 of the fourth quarter, a 10-yard toss to tight end Bert Bondi.
Perdikakis kicked a 31-yard field goal for Towson (2-2) early in the fourth quarter to cut the Columbia lead to 7-6 but, after a 63-yard punt by the Lions, Ryan Kiernan, Towson punter Ben Gossard stepped out of the end zone to give the Lions a 9-6 lead.
Tillotson also had two pass interceptions and two kickoff returns for 69 yards in addition to his two pass receptions but the Lions may have lost running back Jason Bivens, their leading returning rusher, who strained ligaments in his left knee on the fourth play of the game.
