Wall Street Stocks Open Lower

NEW YORK (AP) _ Stock prices were sharply lower in early trading Monday.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 146 points in the early going. Losing issues on the New York Stock Exchange held a 7-to-4 lead over gainers.
The Nasdaq Composite Index was off 180 points and the Standard & Poor's 500 Stock Index is up 7 points.
The market was coming under pressure as it begin the trading week, with much of it centering on Microsoft.
Shares of the software giant were expected to drop sharply amid published reports that government lawyers are now likely to recommend a breakup of the company.
Additionally, investors will have the chance to react to a bundle of earnings reports, with numbers out from American Express, Priceline.com and Merck, among many others.
