WACO, Texas (AP) _ Jabari Hearn hit four 3-pointers in two minutes and scored a career-high 24 points as Southern Methodist defeated Baylor 84-78 Wednesday night.

The Southwest Conference opener for both teams was tied 49-49 when Hearn began his shooting spree.

Hearn, who made 6 of 11 3-point attempts, hit his first bomb with 1:55 left in the first half to give the Mustangs (4-8, 1-0) a 33-31 lead they never relinquished.

The Bears (5-8, 0-1) used a 13-2 scoring run early in the game to take a 20-15 lead, but they couldn't overcome Hearn's hot hand.

Baylor got 21 points and 12 rebounds from David Hamilton. Brian Skinner had 13 points and 13 rebounds, Aundre Branch scored 14 points and Nelson Haggerty had 11.
