NEW YORK (AP) _ Stocks that were moving substantially or trading heavily Monday on the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq Stock Market.
Ivax Corp., up $2.31 at $25.19; Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd., up 6 cents at $31.22.
Ivax, a specialty generic pharmaceuticals company, agreed to be purchased by rival Teva Pharmaceutical for $7.4 billion in cash and stock.
Whirlpool Corp., up $4.86 at $82.04; Maytag Corp., up 93 cents at $17.13.
Whirlpool's stock climbed after rival Maytag said Whirlpool's a $1.43 billion acquisition proposal may be a better deal than the one offered by a New York investment firm.
Xerox Corp., up $1 at $13.05.
The copier posted lower than expected second-quarter earnings and warned third-quarter results would miss analysts' expectations.
Benihana Inc., up $2.48 at $17.48.
The restaurant chain said first-quarter same-store sales were up 9 percent and first-quarter earnings will be ``substantially greater'' than its prior estimate of 28 to 30 cents a share.
Electronic Arts Inc., up $1.42 at $62.28.
The video game maker won the rights to develop ``Lord of the Rings'' computer games.
Overstock.com, up 55 cents at $40.40.
The online retailer's stock fell after Piper Jaffray cut its rating due to concerns about slowing growth and overly high earnings expectations by analysts.
