STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) _ Andrea Garner scored 21 points as Penn State upset No. 8 Wisconsin 86-71 Sunday in their Big Ten opener, giving Lady Lions coach Rene Portland his 400th victory with the team.

Penn State (7-3) outscored the Badgers 19-5 during an eight-minute span of the second half, pushing its lead to 19 with seven minutes left.

Foul problems plagued the Badgers (9-2, 0-1) in the second half. LaTonya Sims, Wisconsin's center and third-leading scorer, got her fourth foul with over 16 minutes remaining and the Lady Lions were in the bonus for the final 12 minutes.

Penn State made 21 free throws, while the Badgers only attempted 21.

Christine Portland scored a career-high 18 points for the Lady Lions, while Maren Walseth added 13. Katie Voigt led Wisconsin with 18 points and Sims had 14.
