Nadal today improved to 11-0 in French Open semifinals as he overwhelmed 2009 U.S. Open champion Juan Martin del Potro. Thiem earlier reached his first Grand Slam final by eliminating unseeded Marco Cecchinato in straight sets.
WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump says he expects to welcome the hometown Washington Capitals hockey team to the White House for winning the Stanley Cup. But he adds: "If they don't want to be here, I don't want them." The president spoke to reporters on the South Lawn days after he canceled a visit by the Philadelphia Eagles to commemorate their Super Bowl victory after most of the players decided to skip the ceremony.
NEW YORK (AP) — Justify turned in another strong gallop today in his final preparation for a Triple Crown bid in the $1.5 million Belmont Stakes. The chestnut colt will be the odds-on favorite tomorrow to become the 13th horse to sweep the Kentucky Derby, Preakness and Belmont.
TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy says he has given himself no timetable to act on a bill to legalize sports betting. The state Legislature passed the bill Thursday and sent it to the Democratic governor. The state's casinos and racetracks are itching to start taking bets on sports now that New Jersey has won a U.S. Supreme Court case clearing the way for it and all the other states to do so.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — There will be a matchup of soon-to-be-millionaires tomorrow in the NCAA baseball tournament. Casey Mize and Brady Singer will take the mound for the first time since becoming first-round picks in the Major League Baseball draft. Mize was the top selection out of Auburn, taken by Detroit, and Florida's Singer went 18th overall to Kansas City. Their third meeting in 15 months is the rubber match between two of the best arms in college baseball.
