Police Question Miami Mayor
Feb. 07, 2001
MIAMI (AP) _ Miami police questioned Mayor Joe Carollo at headquarters on Wednesday, a few hours after officers got an emergency domestic violence call from his home.
Officers at the home also interviewed the mayor's wife of 15 years, Maria Ledon Carollo, who announced three months ago that she was seeking a divorce.
A police spokesman said only that officers were investigating possible domestic violence.
``The Miami Police Department has a very aggressive domestic violence policy, and right now we're taking great pains to question both the mayor and his wife,'' Police Lt. Bill Schwartz said.
Two police vans were outside the couple's house in Coconut Grove, and the road was blocked off with yellow police tape.
The couple has two children, Caroline and Kelley, who were 12 and 10 at the time of the divorce filing in November.
The mayor has said he would not run for re-election in November.
