Radio Station's Traffic Helicopter Crashes into Home; Pilot Killed
Jul. 06, 1991
PHOENIX (AP) _ A radio station's traffic helicopter plunged into an unoccupied home and caught fire, killing the pilot.
Nobody on the ground was hurt in the Friday afternoon accident involving a Robinson R-22 helicopter, said Police Sgt. Kevin Robinson.
''We looked up, and it was sputtering, and we heard the pop, and then it just turned upside-down and dropped like a rock,'' said Doris Kinnison, a resident of the neighborhood where the chopper crashed.
Robinson tentatively identified the pilot as Mike Neutzman, 50, a retired police sergeant who reported traffic for station KTAR.
An autopsy would be required to make a positive identification, said Robinson.
The National Transportation Safety Board, the Federal Aviation Administration and Phoenix police were investigating the crash.
