NEW YORK (AP) _ A 16-year-old boy was shot to death during a robbery attempt aboard a subway train, police said Saturday.

A 21-year-old man was arrested and charged with the Friday night slaying.

Eduardo Garcia was charged with murder, attempted robbery, weapons possession and criminal use of a firearm in the killing of Hansel Henriques, said police spokesman Officer Chris Cottingham. Police were seeking a second suspect.

Henriques was shot in the face by one of two gun-toting bandits aboard the No. 2 train as it approached s station at 149th Street and Third Avenue in the Bronx, Cottingham said.

The teen was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after the 11 p.m. shooting Friday. According to Cottingham, the victim was in the last car of the train when he was approached by Garcia and a second man.

When they displayed a gun and demanded the victim's chain, Henriques apparently refused and words were exchanged, Cottingham said. The victim was then shot once in the face.
