NEW YORK (AP) _ George Brett of the Kansas City Royals left the first game of Sunday's doubleheader against the New York Yankees after the first inning with what was described by a team spokesman as a slight muscle pull in his right rib cage.
Brett pulled the muscle while hitting a foul ball during his only at-bat, a first inning walk.
Brett played the field in the Yankees' first inning and was charged with an error for mishandling a throw during a three-run New York rally.
His condition was characterized as 'day-to-day' by the team spokesman. Brett is hitting .318 with one home run and three runs batted in for his first nine games this season.
