Fire at vacant Flint school may have been intentionally set

FLINT, Mich. (AP) — Authorities say a fire on the roof of a vacant Flint elementary school may have been intentionally set.
Battalion Chief Mark Kovach tells The Flint Journal that crews responded early Monday to Washington Elementary and found a fire on the roof of the former school's gym. He says a small fire also was found inside the building. Firefighters were on the scene for about two hours.
Kovach says it "looked worse than it was," but noted that "you have to be really careful going up on roofs like that."
The cause of the fire wasn't immediately known. Kovach says someone may have thrown something that was on fire onto the school's roof.
Washington Elementary closed in 2015 amid cost-cutting by Flint's school district.
