MIAMI (AP) _ Tim Hardaway scored 12 of his 21 points in the first quarter as the Miami Heat beat the Minnesota Timberwolves 102-90 on Tuesday night to improve to 2-0 in the preseason.

Todd Day had 16 points, including eight in the fourth quarter when Miami outscored Minnesota 29-22. Mark Strickland, starting in place of injured forward Jamal Mashburn, added 14 points and eight rebounds.

Kevin Garnett led the Timberwolves (1-2) with 17 points, and Stephon Marbury, returning from a hand injury, had 16 points and five assists. Tom Gugliotta added 16 points.
