WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) _ Freshman Katie Douglas hit a driving layup with eight seconds left and a free with one second left to lift Purdue to a 71-68 upset of No. 9 Illinois on Sunday.
The victory kept the Illini (18-8, 12-4 Big Ten) from a first-place conference tie with Iowa heading into next weekend's tournament at the RCA Dome in Indianapolis.
Douglas finished with 14 points and six rebounds. Stephanie White scored a career-high 30 points to lead the Boilermakers (17-9, 10-6).
Ashley Berggren led Illinois with 22 points, but was held to eight in the decisive second half.
Illinois used a 21-8 run in the final 7:07 of the first half to lead 42-30 at intermission and was up 56-46 with 12:27 remaining in the second half before Purdue staged a furious comeback.
The Boilermakers went on a 12-0 run for a 58-56 lead with 8:20 left. White, Douglas and Camille Cooper all scored in the spurt, with eight of the points coming from the free throw line.
Purdue surged ahead 63-58 on Cooper's free throw with 5:49 left, but Tauja Catchings then scored the game's next six points to put Illinois ahead 64-63 with 2:56 left.
The contest was tied three times before Douglas' game-winning layup.
The Illini had a chance to tie it 70-70 but Berggren missed a 10-foot baseline jumper.
Ukari Figgs added 10 points for the Boilermakers.
Reinking added 13 points and Catchings 12 for the Illini.
