UPS Builds Online Shipping Tool Presence

ATLANTA (AP) _ UPS is increasing the presence of its online shipping tools with an agreement it has reached with Internet company Yahoo! Inc.
The tools, which allow customers to process shipments, track packages and figure costs online, will be accessible through Yahoo!'s small business section, the companies said Monday.
The tools are now available to Yahoo! Small Business' more than 30,000 merchants. A new co-branded Web site will showcase the relationship.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Yahoo! is based in Sunnyvale, Calif.
Over the last few years, UPS and rival FedEx Corp., which is based in Memphis, Tenn., have been scrambling to embed their online shipping tools into the business software and Web sites their customers use most.
FedEx tools are a seamless, exclusive part of the popular QuickBooks accounting program. Atlanta-based UPS has an agreement with online auction house eBay. UPS says its online tools are used by nearly 200,000 customers in 40 countries.
In another deal meant to expand customer service options, UPS announced last week that it reached an agreement with computer maker Toshiba to ship computers in need of repair through the UPS network to reduce turnaround time for customers to four days or less. The program will use The UPS Store for packaging and drop-off of laptops, the shipping giant's network for movement of customer computers and its supply chain solutions division for parts management and technical repair.
