UNION, S.C. (AP) — Four teens have been arrested after sheriff's deputies in South Carolina say someone carved the words "Hail Satan" on a porch floor.
News outlets reported that Union County Sheriff David Taylor said deputies were called to Welcome Baptist Church on July 9.
A sheriff's report says the church's Family Life Center had been damaged. The report said six boards on the porch were damaged and the words "Hail Satan" were carved on one. Two plastic columns were also burned.
Taylor said Monday that 18-year-old James LaGrange Murphy of Union and three 16-year-olds have been arrested and charged with malicious injury to a place of worship. The sheriff said one of the younger teens is from Spartanburg and two are from Union.
It was not known if Murphy has a lawyer.
