MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) — Vermont Gov. Peter Shumlin is engaged to his girlfriend, and they plan to marry within the next year.
The governor's office announced Thursday the 59-year-old Shumlin recently became engaged to 31-year-old Katie Hunt. They have not chosen a wedding date.
After the three-term governor leaves office in early 2017, they plan to make their home in Westminster West, in southern Vermont near where they grew up.
The governor's office says Hunt is an artist and landscape gardener who's finishing her degree at Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts.
Shumlin announced in 2013 he and his first wife were divorcing. He has two adult daughters.
The Democratic governor says he and Hunt are happy to share the news of their upcoming marriage.
